It's a Birthday Party!

Hey! You’re invited! Today is the birthday of the famous Dr. Seuss, and we’re having a party! It’s a party in three parts, brought to you by three blogging friends. After you finish here, I’ll direct you to another site. After you celebrate with that blogger, she will send you to the third site. Now, you don’t have to go round and round indefinitely, since that might make you a little dizzy and confused, but you should see all of our sites before jumping off the merry-go-round.

Grab your hat and get started!
You look GREAT!

And so do you!

Did you ever read BARTHOLOMEW AND THE OOBLECK?

Oobleck was a strange material that fell out of the sky. Today would be a great day to read the book and then make your very own Oobleck. Here’s the recipe:

2 cups cornstarch
1 cup water
3 drops of food coloring (optional, but fun)

Mix ingredients in a medium sized bowl. You may not need the entire cup of water, so add it slowly. You’ll know when you get Oobleck.

Is it liquid or solid? It flows like a liquid, but if you put pressure on it, it will feel like a solid.

Try making a ball. Let it flow off your fingers.

You could make this into a science lesson, but since you’re at a party, just play with it. (But don’t eat it.)

Have fun!

Wash that Oobleck off your hands now.

It's time to vote for your favorite Dr. Seuss book. Look over to the right side, up at the top. Ten of his most popular books are listed, but he wrote lots more, so if your favorite isn't there, just vote for "other" and add your favorite book in the comments section.

I was grown before I knew about I WISH THAT I HAD DUCK FEET, but that quickly became my favorite. My mother, who taught (mostly second grade) for 32 years, could read that book so dramatically! I think she could quote it by memory.

I also love GREEN EGGS AND HAM. ("I do not like them, Sam-I-am. I do not like green eggs and ham.")

You are encouraged to tell us why you like your favorite Dr. Seuss book in the comment section.

There are lots of other fun things you can do to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, but it's time to move on. Here are some words to remember before you go to the next part of the party.

Thanks for coming! Now go to Sara's 2 Cents. http://www.sarameade.blogspot.com/

A poll! Aren't you fancy? I voted for The Lorax, but I don't know why it's my favorite. I just always kind of liked it. Plus it has the name going for it--it's almost Lorac, which is Carol backwards!

Oh, but also I liked the Sneetches. Putting on the stars, taking off the stars. Now I wish I could change my vote.

I was going to vote for "Go Dog Go!" and "Wump World" as my favorite Suess books until you told me he didn't write those.
