What's More Magical Than a Bookstore?

What's more magical than a bookstore?
.
During my recent trip to southern California, I had the opportunity to visit The Frugal Frigate, a children's bookstore, in Redlands.
.
As I approached the store, I could see the knight in shining armor. Now, that promises excitement.

Once inside, there were so many wonderful things to see!

The store had great displays.

Lots of fun stuff! Let's play!

Isn't this CUTE?!!!

All that's needed here is a pair of two-year-olds.

Inviting materials filled every nook and cranny.

Look at this! A princess can celebrate her birthday in this room.

I really wanted to have my birthday party here, but I would have had to stick around for another three and a half weeks. I suspected my brother and sister-in-law might get tired of me by then, so I returned to Oklahoma.

But hey, it's still four days until my birthday. Can't some of you creative people come up with something similar by then? (Dr. Lobo, are you paying attention? You do remember that I'm a princess, don't you?)

What? You think it's not appropriate for a 63-year-old to celebrate her birthday in this way? I can if I want to! You're not the boss of me! And I want a princess dress, too.

Let's get back to the tour. Please do not run up the stairs.

Here's where you can find books for older kids (like me).

Looking down from up here is fun, too.

The photographer apologizes for cutting off a couple of letters, but you get the idea.

Do I remember that you are a Princess? That's real funny. You only remind me twice a day at a minimum. Not to mention that you wear your damn tiara even when in the shower. Listen if you wanted a birthday party like that, you should have ought to have stayed in Redlands. I would have sent money to your brother to cover his expenses and a bit more for the grief incurred by your visit.

I notice you weren't really counting on me to come through(smart girl), and referred to "you people" in your request. Well then who ever "you people" are, let me know what you're going to do for her and where I should show up!

I was going to take her somewhere special but if "you people' have plans I sure don't want to interfere so I've cancelled those reservations and cancelled the pony and the clown too.

What a wonderful place to inspire the love of reading in children! As for the princess party, I'd be game to set one up for you if only I lived closer. I even have a crown cookie cutter. And I once made a castle birthday cake for my daughter with turrets, a princess, a knight in shining armor, and a moat with a little crocodile swimming in it. Wishing you an early Happy Birthday! I hope all your princess wishes come true.

Oklahoma Granny, Dr. Lobo made a castle cake for my kids's birthday parties a couple of times. It was a big hit! But after reading his response to this blog post, I'm not holding my breath waiting for a castle cake for my birthday this year. He's getting old and grouchy!

This is, by far, the coolest bookstore ever! I could almost catch a whiff of that "new book" smell. Thank you for posting the pics. I have friends in the area that are definitely going to get an email about this store.
